The pair’s Macedonian heritage, their grandfather’s recipe, and Covid giving them the time and space to develop their business concept, resulted in (already) award winning rakija, a spirit made from fermented fruit. DNA’s first batch of ready-to-drink Rakija & Tonic sold out in just weeks.

When Emma Gibbons was establishing a female led manufacturing company in regional Australia, she embodied dogged determination and resilience. The Queensland’s 2023 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award winner and owner of pet food brand Huds and Toke, Gibbons now has an all-female team of 15, employing local women in a production environment and developing their skills. Oh, and she also works with Krispy Kreme on its Doggy Doughnuts campaign that has expanded from Australia to the US and this year, the UK. Read her story on page 24.

Always at the forefront of forensic traceability, Source Certain’s Charlie Watkinson shares the work it has been doing with WA Farm Direct to safeguard the provenance of Bravo apples. Watkinson says the company’s TWS Trace technology, which definitively proves fruit came from a single grower, is the biggest advance in supporting the Plant Breeders’ Rights Act in a generation.
