SodaStream has a new Australian competitor selling home soft drink-making equipment, syrups, carbonators, and accessories.

Offering a local, home-grown point of difference, the new company, SodaKing, is based in Melbourne under the direction of Matt Gabelich.

“Up until now there has only been Sodastream, a foreign-owned company, selling home soda makers to the Australian market,” Gabelich said.

“SodaKing will offer consumers and retailers a better value proposition.”

Included in the range is stevia-based syrups for the health-conscious.

Gabelich hopes to see the brand succeed in Australia and extend to a global market.

SodaStream has been working to expand its offering in recent months, releasing a new home beer system called the Beer Bar which combines sparkling water and a beer concentrate, and adding 24 low-sugar fruit flavours to its range earlier this year.
