Sanitarium, Hazeldene's Chicken and Kez's Kitchen were among those to take out top honours at the 2013 HACCP Awards hosted by Advancing Food Safety, SAI Global.

The awards, which took place at the 20th Australian HACCP Conference this week, celebrated the contribution of both organisations and individuals in the food safety domain.

Allan Dall, general manager NSW, of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs company, Barden Produce, took out the award for an outstanding individual nominated by an agri-food industry company.

The consistency and passion Dall showed in supporting staff in addressing key legislative and compliance issues were key to his win.

The winner of the outstanding individual working as a registered food safety auditor category was Troy Arnold, SAI Global for his consistently professional and client focused assessment and auditing of the Quality and Food Safety Management Systems in addition to his continuous education of others.

Hazeldene’s Chicken and Kez’s Kitchen were equal winners in the outstanding company, single-site category.

Hazeldene's, a vertically integrated regional poultry processor, has never received a critical corrective action in its history while the family-owned gourmet crisp bread and biscuit company, Kez’s Kitchen, was awarded for its commitment to food safety and continuous improvement which began in 1999 with its move to a purpose-built facility that was specifically created to HACCP standards and world leading practice.

Winner of the outstanding company, multi-site category was Sanitarium, thanks to its dedication to continuous improvement and commitment to high levels of food safety compliance across complex multi-site operations.

Glen Neal, manager, food and beverage, at the Ministry for Primary Industries New Zealand, won the inaugural Ross Peters Memorial Award for his efforts in driving reform across the agrifood sector in NZ and for contributing to food safety.

“The HACCP Awards set Australasia’s food industry professional standards. This year’s winners have demonstrated both excellence in advancing safe food practices and passion to share their knowledge with the industry,” said Damian James, general manager of assurance services Australia at Advancing Food Safety, SAI Global.
