South Australian pickles and preserves company Spring Gully has been granted $576,000 by the state government to help it boost efficiency.

The company, which called in the administrators in April after suffering a sudden dip in supermarket sales, was handed back its directors in July.

Spring Gully has seen enormous public support since its financial troubles hit the headlines, and South Australian premier Jay Weatherill said the state government wanted to support the company.

“Spring Gully is a favourite South Australian brand and shoppers have got behind this family business since times became tough for them,” Weatherill said.

Spring Gully, which recently made its first payment to creditors, reducing its debt by $1 million, has said it will spend the grant to upgrade the line that processes its relishes and jams to boost production and reduce costs.
