Goodman Fielder has rolled out a low carb version of its premium Helga's branded loaf which replaces some of the wheat flour with a mix of seeds.
With 20.5g of carbs per two slices, the loaf has 25 per cent less carbohydrates compared to standard mixed grain breads (41g/100g), according to Goodman Fielder. Two slices of the loaf also contain 11.1g of protein and 4.6g of dietary fibre.
The new loaf, which is labelled Lower Carb, comes in three varieties: Five Seeds, Soy & Toasted Sesame and Sunflower & Golden Linseed.
It has the endorsement of dietitian, Susie Burrell, who said lower carb wholegrain bread like the new Helga's range, was a good alternative for women seeking to cut carbs.
From a nutritional perspective, she said, the loaf was “up there with the leaders in the category”.
