The second edition of the Gelato World Tour, which seeks to identify the world's best gelato, has seen record participation from Australian gelato artisans, according to organisers.
Last year, two Sydney gelato artisans won the title, which was held in Rimini, Italy in September.
The Mandorla Affogato gelato flavour created by John & Sam Crowl of “Cow and the Moon” gelato and coffee bar in Enmore in Sydney's inner-west won the title as The World's Best Gelato.
Since then, the organisers say, there has been a huge surge in interest among gelato artisans in Oceania to participate in the Gelato World Tour competition.
The second edition of Gelato World Tour will start in March. Gelato artisans from Asia Pacific will compete from 20 to 22 March at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
16 flavors will go into the running for the title of World's Best Gelato Asia Pacific and entrants will come from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Russia and India.
The Gelato World Tour will travel next to Tokyo’s Komazawa Park in September 2015, then to the United States, South America, and Europe with the finals to be held in Italy, the home of Gelato, in September 2017.
According to organisers, Sigep-Rimini Fiera and Carpigiani Gelato University, South East Asia, together with North America, is one the most attractive markets for the artisan gelato sector.
