Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling on consumers unaware of last month's recall to check their freezers for pomegranate product.

FSANZ CEO Mark Booth said 180gm Creative Gourmet frozen pomegranate product from Coles has now been linked to nine cases of hepatitis A, and consumers may still have product in their freezers without being aware of the recall.

“We want to ensure all consumers who may have this product are aware of the possible link between the product and hepatitis A,” he said.

Creative Gourmet owner Entyce Food Ingredients said last month it had recalled the overseas-sourced product as a precaution, even though the product it had tested did not reveal a link to Hepatitis A.

However Booth said that epidemiological evidence had linked nine cases of hepatitis A with the product.

The affected product includes all best before dates of up to and including 21/03/20. Fresh pomegranate and Australian grown frozen pomegranate products have not been implicated in this recall.
