Primo's former owner, Paul Lederer, has been awarded a diploma by the Danish Export Association, a top honour for businesses and individuals who contribute to the Danish economy.

Pork demand has outstripped supply in Australia, and to fill the shortfall, Primo, which was recently acquired by JBS, has bought $2 billion worth of it from Denmark over the last 20 years, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.

Australia, produces 5 million pigs a year but there is demand for 9 million, with most of the balance coming from Denmark, according to the article.

Lederer reportedly said he'd discussed the shortage with government ministers over the years, but a lack of water in rural properties and swings in raw material costs meant Primo had to rely on imports.
