Australasia's largest and longest running food manufacturing trade show, foodpro, will be held in Melbourne for the first time next year, from 22 to 25 June.

foodpro is held once every three years, and next year the show will span over 20,000 square metres at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, according to its organisers. Around 300 suppliers of the food and beverage sectors will be exhibiting and about 10,000 people are expected attend.

Many aspects of the Australasian food processing industry will be on show. One section of the show will cover processing equipment for meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables, while a technical area will cover food science and technology, including ingredients, additives and flavourings, laboratory equipment and food safety.

The event will also have a dedicated plant equipment section featuring water treatment, doors and flooring, pumps, and a complete range of food plant services. There will also be a vast packaging and handling area specialised for the food industry.

foodpro exhibition manager, Peter Petherick, said the move to Victoria was positive for the state’s local food and manufacturing sector and would attract a whole new audience to the event.

“Victoria accounts for close to half of the country’s prepared food products and employs more than 70,000 people within food and beverage manufacturing.

“To have foodpro on your doorstep for the first time is a great opportunity for the whole food manufacturing industry,” he said.

Petherick said foodpro 2014 would pave the way for the future of the food manufacturing industry.

“An exhibition of this magnitude only comes along once every three years and should be at the top of the list for every food processing company’s marketing plan,” he said.

The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST) will also hold its 47th Annual Convention alongside foodpro.

foodpro 2014 will run from Sunday  22 June  to Wednesday 25 June at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Southbank.
