Restaurant delivery service foodora has collaborated with SBS to provide 42,000 meals to Australia’s homeless community.
The activity, inspired by the SBS program, Filthy Rich and Homeless, saw the pair launch their Meal for a Meal initiative which gave consumers the opportunity to donate and feed members of the homeless community.
Filthy Rich and Homeless raised awareness of the hardships endured by more than 100,000 Australians who are homeless on any given night by following five wealthy Aussies as they traded in their privileged lives for 10 days and nights living among the homeless community.
The audience was encouraged to ‘pay it forward’ by donating the value of a meal to leading food rescue charity, OzHarvest.
foodora Chief Marketing Officer, Charlotte Rijkenberg, said: “It was fantastic that we were able to support OzHarvest again through the campaign with SBS.
“Last year we were able to donate 10,000 meals to Aussies via OzHarvest, and this year I am thrilled that we’ve exceeded this, providing 42,000 to those who need it most.”
SBS Director of Marketing, Amanda McGregor, said: “SBS aims to provoke debate and inspire change about important national issues through our programs; in this case, raising awareness of the complexities surrounding homelessness in Filthy Rich and Homeless.
“We are also committed to providing opportunities to allow audiences to further explore these challenging topics in a range of ways, and we are extremely proud to have empowered so many Australians to make a difference by helping those affected by homelessness through supporting OzHarvest’s important work.”
