In a newly created role, dairy co-op Fonterra has appointed Emma Parsons to managing director of Strategy and Optimisation. Parsons will start in the role on 1 August.

Fonterra CEO Miles Hurrell says Parsons understanding of, and long history with, the business made her a valuable addition to the Fonterra management team.

Parsons most recent role was general manager Capital Strategy and leading the development of the co-op’s new capital structure.

The new managing director role will oversee the implementation of Fonterra’s strategy to deliver on its Long Term Aspirations. It will also elevate the focus on demand choices, and portfolio and asset management using analytics to inform decision making.

“Emma is incredibly passionate about Fonterra and has had a long career with us, which began working at the local factory in her summer holidays and has spanned many different parts of the co-operative,” Hurrell said.

Prior to her role as GM Capital Strategy, Parsons was CEO of Agrigate, a JV between Fonterra and Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC). Before that, she was the GM Responsible Dairying and held roles in Brazil and Argentina where she developed the co-op’s export relationships and supply chain integration across Latin America.

Emma has an MBA with first class honours from Massey University, a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University of Wellington.
