The Australian Made Campaign Ltd (ACML) will receive up to $5m from the Federal Government in a commitment to support Australian manufacturers nationally and abroad.

The announcement aims to boost the Australian Made, Australian Grown (AMAG) logo – currently used by nearly 3000 businesses across thousands of products around the world – in key export markets, as well as establishing trade mark registrations in the United Kingdom, European Union and Canada.

The AMAG logo is also a key component of the Government’s recently introduced food labelling laws and will be featured on thousands of labels of food products exported from Australia.

Australian Made chief executive Ben Lazzaro said it was encouraging to see this level of commitment to Australian manufacturers.

“It’s important that we foster a manufacturing environment that encourages and assists manufacturers to innovate and build on their success, as well as providing pathways to new markets,” said Lazzaro.

“The end result being a healthy manufacturing sector, job creation and better access to markets.”

“The AMAG logo has a proven 33-year track record in making the ‘Australian connection’ here and overseas, so it makes real sense to enhance its effectiveness as export markets continue to open up for Aussie manufacturers.”

Director of export advisory and consultancy service, Export Connect, Najib Lawand told Food & Drink Business that Australian exporters need all the support available to build strong brand presence in export markets.

“The wider promotion of the Australian Made logo will help our brands capitalise on the positive reputation of Australian foods and beverages internationally,” said Lawand.

“It is also great to see that the Australian Made logo will soon be promoted across most ASEAN markets, where Export Connect believes Australian brands have high growth potential. There are many programmes and initiatives that help Australian businesses become export ready and go to market; this initiative can help with moving the products off the supermarket shelves.”

The AMAG logo is currently a registered trade mark in USA, China, South Korea, Singapore and India, with legal proceedings having commenced to register it in seven other Asian countries – Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
