A recent four-day promotional venture, McGuigan Wines' Dublin City Vineyard, has paid off with the Australian wine brand now confirmed as the number one seller in Ireland.

The brand, which is owned by Australian Vintage, entered Ireland in 1992, and last September it launched its Dublin City Vineyard, a real life vineyard complete with Semillon vines, a cellar door, wine barrels and tractors, in Dublin's financial district.

The move reaped results with McGuigan recently overtaking Blossom Hill as the leading supplier of wine in the Irish market.

McGuigan Wines chief winemaker, Neil McGuigan, said he made a bold statement last year during Dublin City Vineyard that the brand would become number one in Ireland, and it was “fantastic to have realised this goal”.

“Our continued investment and support in the market through initiatives such as the McGuigan City Vineyard, have made this achievement possible, against adverse market conditions,” he said.

“This is fantastic news for the Australian Wine Industry as a whole and continues the recent successes seen by McGuigan over the past 12 months.”

McGuigan says the key to its success is Black Label range. It now plans to continue its investment in engaging customers in the UK, where it currently sits at number seven.
