Fairtrade brand Qi Tea's Organic Detox Green Tea has been named the best Fairtrade product in Australia at the inaugural 2013 National Fairtrade Product of the Year Awards.

All of Qi Tea's ingredients are ethically sourced and bought directly from a small co-operative of independent Fairtrade farmers, but the company was competing against the likes of Oxfam, Nestle and Starbucks to win the coveted award.

The awards recognise Australian companies, retailers and individuals who have taken the greatest steps to create better futures for farmers, their families and local communities in developing countries.

Nicole Lamond Philp, a director of Universal Village which distributes Qi Tea in Australia, said she isn’t surprised the product won because it always received positive feedback.

“People love Qi Detox so much they actually send fan mail. They love how great it tastes and with health concerns affecting so many, Qi Detox is exactly what consumers are looking for,” she said.

Qi Tea's Organic Detox Green Tea is sold at Woolworths and IGA Supermarkets nationally.
