Researcher Nielsen Homescan has released figures showing a decline in cordial sales between October 2014 and October 2015.
The sale of the sugary drink declined by 5.8 per cent by value and 11.2 per cent by volume, with sales declining at a higher rate than the previous year.
Only 53.7 per cent of Australian households now stock the drink, compared to 56.1 per cent in 2014 and 58.7 per cent in 2013.
Once its prime demographic, the majority of the drop comes from adults under 35 who have turned their back on the drink, according to a news.com.au report.
According to market research firm Euromonitor International, the consumption of cordial in Australia declined from 5.46L per capita in 2012 to 5.23L in 2013.
There has been a noticeable shift towards premium cordial, which is mainly used as mixers.
Schweppes, for example, has a premium cordial range designed for mixing with soda water, tonic water, dry ginger ale or spirits.
