The deadline for submissions on free range egg labelling has been extended following a roundtable meeting in Canberra yesterday with egg industry representatives.

The closing date for submissions on the government's consultation paper on the topic released last month has been extended to 27 November.

“The main message from the egg representatives today was they need certainty - the current confusion over the meaning of free range is a risk to future growth and sustainability,” Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Barnaby Joyce said.

“The Australian Government is delivering on its commitment to eliminate the uncertainty over labelling with the recent release of a consultation paper."

The recently released paper outlines three broad policy options: the status quo, an information standard for free range eggs and an information standard for all eggs.
