Coles Group recorded growth in group sales revenue and gross retail sales during Q1FY22 as consumer shopping behaviour normalised.

Group sales revenue rose 1.3 per cent to $9.9 billion and gross retail sales to $10.2 billion, up 1.9 per cent.

Coles Group CEO Steven Cain said, “We are pleased that a strengthening sales trajectory is being driven by improved availability, new value campaigns, and the unwind of local shopping as consumer shopping behaviour normalises.”

Supermarkets price inflation was 7.6 per cent, up from 7.4 per cent in Q4FY21

During the quarter, more than 370 new Coles Own Brand products and 94 exclusive liquor brand products were launched.

Targeting the health and wellness channel included launching a home delivery meal kit service, QuiteLike, and the roll out of its Health in Every Aisle campaign.

Ecommerce sales reached 7.6 per cent but declined by 11.5 per cent in the quarter as store shopping made a return. Its three-year sales revenue growth is now 105 per cent. Liquor ecommerce sales revenue growth was 3.9 per cent, with its three-year growth at 348 per cent.

Three-year sales growth in Supermarkets was 13.8 per cent, 15.2 per cent in Liquor and 7.5 per cent in Express. 

Its Coles SecondBite Winter Appeal raised more than $1.7 million in three weeks and the group has supplied 40 pallets of essential groceries including milk, pasta, rice, juice, coffee, tea, nappies, and cleaning products to flood affected areas in Victoria.
