Patrón Tequila has unveilved the national winner of its Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition 2018 at a Sydney event following a series of regional heats across Australia.

Abby Wegener from Hades Hulu House in South Australia won for her cocktail ‘The Muldejewangk’, which was inspired by the mythological creature that used to snatch kids that stray too close to the Murray River banks.

Abby Wegener will now represent Australia and compete against eighteen other national Patrón Perfectionists winners in the Global Finals that will take place in Mexico in January 2019.

The event, which was hosted by recently appointed Patrón ambassador Alejandro Archibald, saw six finalists take to the stage to created their unique cocktail for a panel of judges.

The Patrón Perfectionists competition challenges bartenders to display their cocktail knowledge and craft using Patrón’s ultra-premium tequilas, and in a special twist this year, entrants were to use ‘Australia’ as inspiration for their cocktail recipe.

The bartenders were judged on the Australian-inspired element of their recipe, as well as on the appearance, originality, service and flavour of their cocktail.

The judging panel consisted of Head of Patrón AMEA and NAPAC, Patrón Spirits International, Nick Cox, Global Mezcal Ambassador and Founder of Agave Love, Phil Bayly and Editor in Chief of GQ Australia, Mike Christensen.
