Soon after the tragedies relating to listeria found in rockmelons, several French cheeses from independent retailers have now been recalled.

There have been concerns about potential listeria in cheeses stocked in IGA Foodlands and other independent retailers in Australia.

The NSW Food Authority advised customers in a statement that dairy distributor Washed Rind has recalled a selection of cheese made in France and sold across Australia.

“Washed Rind Pty Ltd has recalled a variety of cheeses made in France from IGA and Supa IGA in NSW, independent retailers in QLD and ACT, Foodworks and independent retailers in VIC, Foodlands IGA and independent retailers in SA and IGA, Supa IGA and independent retailers in WA due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination,” the statement reads.

The news comes on the back of the sixth death in relation to the listeria outbreak connected to contaminated rockmelons.

Also this week, a recall was issued for dog food linked to the death and severe illness of several police dogs.

The Advance Dermocare dry dog food range is being pulled off shelves, and owners urged to stop using the product due to concerns it may be behind the potentially fatal condition, megaesophagus, which has struck down dogs in South Australia and Victoria.

A Mars Petcare Australia spokesperson said the company had been contacted by a number of concerned dog owners, and has decided to voluntarily recall Advance Dermocare dry dog food products in 3kg, 8kg and 15kg bags.

The company said it had run “hundreds of tests” on its dog food range and has found no link between the condition and the product, but was voluntarily recalling the products as a precaution.
