Perishable food rescue organisation OzHarvest is preparing to serve the needy through two CEO CookOff events on 7 March.

On the night of the CookOffs, held in Sydney and Brisbane, CEOs, managing directors and senior business leaders will gather to feed, serve and entertain approximately 1000 people in need.

Food processing solutions provider Wiley has enlisted its managing director Tom Wiley to take part.

“Wiley is passionate about bringing food and people together in a better way,” Wiley said.

“The CEO CookOff is a fantastic event because it’s all about bringing food to those who need it most, but also finding a better way to address pressing food issues facing society such as food wastage.

“Figuring out how we are going to feed the world is an issue that motivates me every day."

Other CEOs participating include Georgie Aley from The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Dominic Barba from Select Fresh Providores, Geoff Boshell from CHEP, and Stu Hilditch from the Australian Institute of Food Safety.

OzHarvest’s founder and CEO Ronni Kahn said the OzHarvest CEO CookOff is a great opportunity for Australia’s business leaders and chefs to connect in a meaningful way with those who are less fortunate.

Participants are expected to raise funds in support of OzHarvest, and $633,791 has been donated so far.

“It’s a healthy competition among the business leaders who are often a naturally competitive bunch,” founder Ronni Kahn said.

“Our collective goal this year is to raise a minimum of $1,500,000.”

At the CookOff, the participants are grouped into teams and paired with well-known chefs.

Each team prepares a meal under the guidance of their chef and serves up the meals to vulnerable men and women.

OzHarvest collects quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to close to 500 charities across Australia.

OzHarvest is the only food rescue organisation in Australia which collects surplus food from all types of food providers including fruit and vegetable markets, supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms.
