Campbell's has made a substantial donation of assorted vegetable soup to Foodbank, the agency that distributes food and beverage products to food relief agencies across Australia.

The food manufacturer has donated 160,000 cans for Australians in crisis, representing 300,000 serves of vegetables. And earlier this year, Campbell’s donated 15,000 bottles of V8 juice, representing 225,000 serves of vegetables.

Foodbank said Campbell’s had been “a friend of Foodbank” since the earliest days of its rescue operations, and over the years it has donated regular supplies of high quality premium soups, simple meals and healthy beverages.

Because the latest soup consignment was unlabelled and in bulk, label company Labelmakers also helped out by providing a simple label, while packaging firm Amcor provided cartons to facilitate distribution.

As the product is new stock with a long shelf life, it will be able to be distributed to the furthest reaches of the Foodbank network for dissemination to food relief agencies both in metropolitan and regional and remote areas, according to Food bank.

“Soup is an absolute mainstay of our food inventory as it is nutritious and easy to prepare, lending itself to a variety of scenarios from prepared meal provision to emergency hampers,” said Foodbank CEO, John Webster

“This donation represents 300,000 serves of vegetables which will be extremely sought-after by charities which are looking to provide the most filling and healthy food they can.”

Campbell’s marketing director, Anne Ricci, said Campbell Arnott’s was proud to be in a position to play a part in helping to eliminate hunger.

“We believe soup is the perfect donation as it is wholesome, nutritious and filling.”

Tetra Pak has also announced its ongoing support of Foodbank, and has marked the occasion by donating a ride-on floor sweeper for the Foodbank warehouse in Wetherill Park, Sydney.

Tetra Pak helps to provide long life milk for people in need, and has so far enabled Foodbank to provide an annual donation of 600,000 litres of long life milk.
