Bulla Dairy Foods has moved into the cinema channel with the acquisition of Rowena Foods, the company that manufactures the movie theatre Choc Top ice cream.

Bulla Dairy Foods took over operations at Rowena Foods' Dandenong South manufacturing plant from 1 July and has retained all staff and will continue delivery of the Choc Top ice cream range.

The general manager commercial of Bulla Dairy Foods, David Sloan, said the acquisition of Rowena Foods was a logical expansion for the company and would benefit both parties.

“At Bulla, we take pride in crafting Australian-made dairy products that give enjoyment to families everywhere, which parallels Rowena’s reputation for manufacturing the iconic Australian-made Choc Top,” he said.

“This acquisition enables Bulla to access the cinema channel for the first time, while using our extensive experience in the ice cream category to ignite growth.”

CEO Village Cinema Kirk Edwards also said the acquisition would have a positive impact. He said Bulla Dairy Foods understood “how to identify and fulfil market needs and this is an important attribute for any supplier we engage”.
