The soon-to-be-opened International Convention Centre (ICC) at Darling Harbour has pledged its support for NSW wine producers.
Stuart Ayres, the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, who launched the venue's wine collection yesterday, said the new ICC will offer 93 wines when it opens in December, 80 per cent of which have been sourced from local NSW vineyards.
ICC Sydney CEO Geoff Donaghy described the move as a huge boost to the local wine industry, and smaller producers in particular.
In addition to serving over 200,000 bottles annually, he said, the venue will showcase NSW wines to international delegates attending the ICC, with 340 major events already confirmed.
More than 1000 bottles were tasted – 150 wines a day for seven days – before the final 93 wines were selected, according to William Wilson, sommelier and ICC Sydney beverage operations and cellar manager (pictured above).
“NSW has got some truly world class wines and I'm really happy to showcase them today,” he said.
Swinging Bridge, Printhie Wines, Lark Hill and Tyrell’s wines were among the collection which were showcased at the launch.
