Former Bellamy's chief Laura McBain has been named as the new MD of Primary Opinion, an ASX-listed company that has taken a 48 per cent stake in Maggie Beer's food business.

McBain headed Bellamy's during its fast rise to share market prominence on the back of strong sales of its organic infant formula in China, but she stepped down earlier this year after growth stalled.

Last year, celebrity chef Maggie Beer and her husband Colin sold 48 per cent of their Maggie Beer Products business for $15 million to Primary Opinion.

Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett is also a substantial shareholder in Primary Opinion, and as part of her package, McBain has been given a placements and options deal that, if exercised, would leave her with close to 20 per cent of Primary Opinion.
