Avocado producers have formed a united front to market their produce to retailers and processors and reduce the need for imports with a new marketing company, The Avolution.
The new company is a joint venture between Queensland avocado producers Lachlan Donovan and Daryl Boardman, and West Australian pack house Advanced Packing and Marketing Services.
Though it was officially launched yesterday, it has been operating quietly for over a year. According to the company, it already represents 65 growers, which between them supply 20 per cent of Australia's avocados and is seeking to attract even more avocado growers into The Avolution fold.
The Avolution organises what fruit is available when and which market it will go to, which means members no longer compete with one another and don't have to market their own produce.
Avocado retailers, processors and foodservice customers in turn will gain access to a more reliable supply of avocados.
The company has so far secured business with Woolworths, Coles and several independents including premium grocer, Thomas Dux and food service customers.
The Avolution also announced yesterday that it had also signed a partnership with Bivest Fresh, a leading fresh produce distributor.
Antony Allen, the CEO of The Avolution, said the company aimed to supply customers with Australian-grown fruit and reduce the need for imports.
“Growing the foodservice market for avocados is the next challenge,” Allen said.
