WA smallgoods company D’Orsogna plans to double its manufacturing capacity with the construction of a new factory north of Melbourne.
The 10,858 square metre facility is being built by MAB Corporation and Gibson Property Corporation in Merrifield Business Park and is expected to provide 240 jobs.
D’Orsogna, which has grown to employ more than 550 people, was founded in 1949 by Italian migrant brothers Tommaso and Giovanni D’Orsogna, who opened a small family butcher shop in West Perth.
D’Orsogna managing director Brad Thomason said MAB is partnering with Melbourne industrial construction company Qanstruct to design and construct a specialised facility.
“We have ambitious expansion plans for the business over the next few years. The scale and flexibility of the Merrifield site provides us with an opportunity to essentially double our manufacturing footprint," he said.
“As always, we’ve taken a measured but proactive approach to making such a substantial investment, after first establishing a modest footprint in Melbourne in 2009 at Mt Waverley.”
