For the launch of its annual Grenache Gin, Never Never Distilling Co. has this year partnered with Australian artist Kerri Wright to transform the bottle to feature ‘spirited’ illustrations.
Located in McLaren Vale, Never Never Distilling Co. co-founder and brand director Sean Baxter said it felt appropriate that the subject matter was inspired by Dionysus, the Greek god of wine.
With the goal of transforming this year’s vintage release into something very special and completely different to previous years, the finished bottle and product evokes a format of storytelling, aided by Wright’s use of lino and woodcutting techniques.
The design depicts the famous Maenad dancer, a follower of Dionysus who was often said to feature in frenzied dances fuelled by intoxication and the supernatural.
“We love the connection between the product and the Greek God of wine, it’s also a subtle nod to what sounds like an appropriate way to spend a sunny afternoon in the Vale – responsibly of course; and I’m certain that the Maenad dancers would have enjoyed a few small measures of this year’s Grenache Gin,” said Baxter.
When Never Never launched the first ‘Ginache’ Grenache Gin in 2020, the product was the first ever Grenache gin to hit the global market, infused with locally grown grapes sourced from the McLaren Vale region.
The Grenache Gin is a deep blackberry hue that turns cherry red when diluted with tonic or soda, and flavours feature blackberry and buttered crumpets. As with any product that is flavoured using natural ingredients, the product will develop over time becoming darker and more intense.
The Never Never 2023 Vintage ‘Ginache’ Grenache Gin is available to purchase online for RRP $85.00 for 500mL with a 38 per cent ABV.
