Veuve Clicquot has launched an entirely new auteur wine, Extra Brut Extra Old, a premium cuvee blended only from its reserve wines.

Veuve Clicquot is part of the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group of luxury brands, which also owns a controlling interest in New Zealand's Cloudy Bay Vineyards.

The reserve wines have been set aside in order to ensure Yellow Label’s consistency over time, and are the "very embodiment of the House’s unique style and values", the company says.

“Veuve Clicquot’s Cellar Master Dominique Demarville has brought its purest essence into sharp focus creating an entirely new dialogue: double aged and with a very low dosage, Extra Brut Extra Old is Veuve Clicquot mixing the best of history.

“More than a champagne, this auteur blend is an exploration, born from Cellar Master Dominique Demarville’s desire to isolate the very essence of Yellow Label.”

To do this, he assembled six years of the finest reserve wines spanning over three decades from 1988 to 2010, according to the company, and singled out the properties that make Yellow Label unique, arriving at Extra Brut Extra Old.

The blended wines are first aged on the lees in vats for a minimum of three years in the House’s vat rooms in Reims. Once bottled, its flavours and nuances deepen thanks to an additional three years of aging in the cellars.

This double maturation gives Extra Brut Extra Old its notes and depth in its nuances, according to its maker.

Extra Brut Extra Old is available in 75cL bottles as well as magnums and will retail at fine wine specialists and restaurants.
