Melbourne rye whiskey distillery The Gospel has released Single Cask Rum, made from the very first cask laid down in its first distillery over 7 years ago.

Double distilled in direct fired pot stills from Australian sugarcane, The Gospel says the Single Cask Rum was aged for most of its life in a re-coopered, Australian red wine cask that had been charred in the alleyway behind its South Melbourne distillery.

It was kept at ground level for a slow maturation, and then transferred to a freshly disgorged Straight Rye Whiskey barrel.

The result is a 7-year-old single cask rum that has been finished in a rye whiskey barrel. Single Cask Rum has notes of dried apricot, brown sugar, toffee, crème caramel, roasted hazelnuts, orange marmalade, nutmeg, cinnamon, jasmine and leatherwood honey.

The limited release will be exclusively available to purchase online for RRP $135. It will join the brand’s core range, Solera Rye and Straight Rye Whiskey.

Packaging News

While UN negotiations to deliver a legally binding plastics treaty have ended in deadlock, Australia remains aligned with the High Ambition Coalition and is progressing domestic efforts on plastics recycling infrastructure and circular economy policy – though decisive action on packaging reform remains stalled.

In line with growth in demand for pressure sensitive labels in SE Asia, UPM Adhesive Materials is expanding its label material factory in Malaysia, adding a new coating line alongside other facility upgrades.

The Australasian Institute of Packaging has become an executive member of the Asian Packaging Federation, as the institute continues to expand its provision of education and training in the region.
