A limited 300 bottle release from The Gospel marks its first 100 per cent Brunswick distillate, celebrating the bespoke distillery’s home turf in Melbourne’s inner north.
The Gospel co-founder Andrew Fitzgerald said, “Our previous releases all started their lives at our old South Melbourne warehouse, eventually making their way over to the northside.
“We’re proud to be a part of the Brunswick community, so it’s humbling to release a product made entirely from beginning to end in this neighbourhood.”
Single Cask #147 is a heavily toasted, 30-month, air-dried single barrel of double pot distilled 100 per cent rye whiskey. Resting high in the bond store, the cask absorbed three Melbourne summers exposed to the greatest temperature variation within the distillery, having spent its entire life on the top rack of their two-storey barrel rack.
The cask was coopered from timber sourced from the Ozark region in the US, with the barrel profile specifically developed as part of The Gospel’s ongoing R&D program for the International Stave Company.
Single Cask #147 is rich with stone fruits of apricot and peach, spun toffee, freshly cut timber and bright green apple on the nose. A long palate of warm melting butter, dark chocolate, and cocoa with a spicy backbone. White pepper and peach iced tea to finish. Medium bodied with a plump and sumptuous mouthfeel.
“Each year we go on a mission to find the top 10-20 barrels from our bond store. Usually, our tasting team of 5 end up enjoying different samples more than others, but the overwhelming consensus is Cask #147 stood out the most – it’s a unicorn cask.” continued Fitzgerald. “Everything about the cask is unique – the backstory, the flavour, the maturation. It’s truly magical.”
Single Cask #147 is available exclusively through The Gospel’s website for RRP $150
