A new Australian brand of an agave spirit, Beudi, has launched in the market. Its hero product is Beudi Blanco while Beudi Margi Spirit is a nod to the classic margarita and an Australian first as a ready-to-drink product (with ice and lime, of course). It’s made with Beudi Blanco and Sunrise Lime Liqueur.

Craft beer and spirits veterans, Jack Connor, Pat Coulson, Dane Pitman and Tom Ruhl have more than 50 years’ experience between them.

“When it comes to tequila and agave spirits, Australians are a thirsty bunch; so much so we’re the third largest consumer in the world. Not only do we have a palette for the plant’s juice, we also happen to have a climate that is perfectly suited to growing it.

“While the international Tequila market has experienced exponential growth for several years, the sun is just rising on Australian grown and distilled agave,” Coulson said.

Coulson said the founders wanted to champion Australian distilled agave and native ingredients.

For the ‘can in hand’ moment, the brand has released a Sparkling Margi RTD and Bushwater RTD, which pairs desert lime, soda and Blanco.

Co-founder, Jack Connor, and owner of Rosella’s in Burleigh Heads, said, “We’re building a brand that is true to who we are – approachable, premium and unapologetically Australian.

“We’re serious about good drinks, driven by locality and sustainability, while being down to earth and proud of our land.”

Native sunrise and desert limes are sourced through Indigenous-owned social enterprise Bush to Bowl, which supports native farming and community-led land care, play a starring role in the brand’s flavour profiles.

Each Beudi bottle is fermented, distilled, and bottled in Australia using a 100 per cent blend of Mexican and locally grown Blue Weber Agave, with a view to becoming 100 per cent Australian-grown in the future as supply allows.

The brand has also pledged one per cent of net revenue to Australian wildlife and conservation efforts.

Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
