A UK food technology company is bringing the world’s first sunflower-seed hot dog, as well as its best-selling plant-based burger, to Woolworths supermarkets.

Moving Mountains signed an exclusive deal with Woolworths nationwide, and Henry’s Burgers in Melbourne, to sell its burger made from oyster mushrooms and beetroot juice “blood”, and its sunflower-seed-based hot dog billed as identical to pork in taste, smell and texture.

Simeon Van der Molen, founder, said the products are aimed at inspiring carnivores to cut back on their meat consumption through foods that are similar to the real thing.

“Following our resounding success in the UK and Europe, we are excited to continue our global expansion to offer Aussie flexitarians truly inspiring dishes.

“Moving Mountains products have been carefully created using the best ingredients and the latest food technology to deliver a healthier, sustainable and authentic substitute to meat that is not only good for you, but also our planet,” he said.

The hot dog combines a sunflower seed base with carrots for colouring; onion for texture; paprika for flavour; and coconut oil for structure and a juicy consistency. The zero-cholesterol plant-based burger, meanwhile, is made of a base of oyster mushrooms; pea protein; wheat and soy for a fibrous texture; beetroot juice for a “bleeding” effect; coconut oil for consistency; oats for a firm structure; and added Vitamin B12.

Packs of four hot dogs will sell for $12.50, and packs of two burgers for $12, in Woolworths supermarkets.
