Lavazza has launched a range of 100 per cent carbon-neutral aluminium capsules, which are compatible with any Nespresso Original machines.

This marks a new milestone in Lavazza’s commitment social and environmental commitments. As well as ensuring the carbon-neutral capsules are recyclable, Lavazza says it has also ensured compensation of indirect emissions along the entire supply chain wherever possible.

The launch of the carbon-neutral aluminium capsules is in alignment with Lavazza Group’s long-term “Roadmap to Zero” goal.

The ultimate aim is to achieve total carbon neutrality by offsetting all direct and indirect emissions generated along the entire value chain.

Lavazza has partnered with Madre De Dios – a project launched in Peru to help protect the Madre de Diòs forests from human settlements – to offset the capsules’ emissions.

The sustainability initiative is preserving carbon captured in trees to help protect local biodiversity and support native communities who depend on the forest for survival.

Over the last 38 years the project has created 470 jobs for locals, safeguarded around 100,000 hectares of Amazonian rainforest and offset up to 25,000 tonnes of CO2.

The carbon-neutral capsule flavours include Qualità Rossa, ¡Tierra! For Planet and Espresso Maestro Lungo, Espresso Maestro Dek, Espresso Maestro Classico and Espresso Maestro Intenso.

The capsules are available online and at Coles and Woolworths.
