Handpicked Wines has released its new collection of winter reds, featuring distinct regional character perfect for the cooler months, and underpinned by the company’s dedication to sustainable and organic viticulture.
The company stated that, while challenging, the persistent La Niña weather across the 2021, 2022, and 2023 vintages produced fruit of great intensity. In the winery, a hands-on, small-batch approach allowed techniques like whole bunch fermentation, cold soaks, and hand plunging to be tailored to each parcel.
A philosophy of gentle extraction was key, followed by maturation, which primarily occurred in French Oak. This considered winemaking ensured the vibrant, site-driven character of each wine were expressed with clarity.
The new vintages form the winter edition of Handpicked’s wine release program, and include:
- Handpicked Collection Barossa Shiraz 2019 (RRP: $70)
- Handpicked Trial Batch Pyrenees Nebbiolo 2022 (RRP: $29)
- Handpicked Collection Barossa Grenache 2022 (RRP: $90)
- Handpicked Collection Heathcote Shiraz 2021 (RRP: $70)
- Handpicked Organic Single Vineyard Capella Pinot Noir 2023 (RRP: $90)
- Handpicked Single Vineyard Highbow Hill Pinot Noir 2023 (RRP: $90)

Both the 2023 Handpicked Single Vineyard Capella Pinot Noir (Mornington Peninsula) and the 2023 Collection Tasmania Pinot Noir are certified organic. Handpicked Wines is a proud accredited member of Sustainable Wine Australia and was the first wine producer to be certified as both Organic & Sustainable Winegrowing Australia in Victoria and Tasmania.
Handpicked Wines chief winemaker, Peter Dillon, said the company’s goal to be 100 per cent organic reflects a belief that healthy land produces truly exceptional wines.
“We consistently apply sustainable techniques to improve soil health, vine performance, and grape quality,” said Dillon.
“All six of our vineyard sites are certified by Sustainable Wine Growing Australia, with five already Certified Organic. This ongoing commitment to nurturing our vineyards with practices that respect the natural ecosystem is central to the quality and character you'll find across this new range of reds.”
The new winter red collection is available now from handpickedwines.com.au and select fine wine retailers.
Handpicked Wines also recently released the 2022 vintages of its Single Vineyard and Collection ranges, showcasing pinot noir and chardonnay from some of Australia’s top wine regions.
