Craft brewer Green Beacon Brewing Co has launched Subtropic, a low carb hazy pale ale that is low on bitterness and high on tropical hop character.

Subtropic is Green Beacon’s first foray into low carb beer. It has 70 per cent less carbohydrates than a traditional pale ale, and only 99 calories per serving.

Green Beacon brand and marketing manager Brad McClelland said hazy pale ale sales across the country had grown by 94 per cent in the past year, while low carb beers captured a $1.2b market share.

“Our Wayfarer Tropical Pale Ale is a naturally hazy beer so a hazy pale ale felt like a comfortable place to start when creating our first low carb beer.

“We made a few batches and tweaked the recipe a bit, fine-tuning the malt bill and hops to make it really well-balanced, until we hit that sweet spot. We want all our beers to be balanced – that’s a huge part of our brew team’s goal,” McClelland said.

Subtropic is available at BWS, Dan Murphy’s, Liquor Land, First Choice and selected independent retailers.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.

Pact has reported a decline in revenue and earnings for the first five months of FY26, citing subdued market demand, as chair Raphael Geminder pursues settlement of the long-running TIC earn-out dispute.
