A premium artisan cheese made at a world heritage site in Holland has been launched in Australia.

Beemster is a cheesemaker specialising in high-end Dutch Gouda cheese with a “rich, creamy taste”, according to the company.

It is made in the UNESCO World Heritage Centre following sustainable and free-range farming practices.

Beemster cheese is aged in the historic warehouses for between one month for a mild taste and up to 26 months for a more robust taste.

The range includes Mild, Medium, Aged, Classic, X-O- and Royaal, each aged for a distinctive flavour.

The Beemster region has mineral-rich soil which results in smooth and sweet milk and creamy Gouda cheese, according to the company.

The Beemster Polder was registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.

Beemster is now imported to Australia through gourmet food wholesaler Angeles Fine Foods.

The recommended retail price for the cheeses ranges from $2.80 to $5.00 per 100g.
