Australia’s largest mushroom supplier, Costa Group, is teaming up with Mingle Seasoning to add a tasty twist to mushrooms for a limited time.

The Australian mushroom industry has been shrinking over the past 16 years, with the number of farms nearly halved due to the rising costs of commercial production, increased retail pricing and the general cost of living.

Over the past year, there has been a decline in mushroom consumption, with only 75.6 per cent of households purchasing mushrooms – a drop of roughly 90,000 households year-on-year. Consumer research has shown that two main barriers to purchase are perception of price per kg and limited repertoire of how to cook with mushrooms.

Costa Group marketing and innovation manager – vertical farming, Elisa Siliato, said the company wants to provide tasty, simple, and quick recipes to inspire Australians to add mushrooms to everyday meals.

“During summer, mushroom consumption declines further, which is why we’ve partnered with Mingle, which has created a delicious seasoning and recipe to pair with our fresh, healthy mushrooms for Woolworths’ Mushroom Month,” said Siliato.

“Our shared values of quality ingredients without fillers make this a great match. Our job is to raise salience and help support consumption with delicious and simple ways to add mushrooms to more meals more often.”

From 21 November to 12 December, consumers who purchase a 375g Portobello Flat Mushroom pack from Woolworths will find a bonus 25g sachet of Mingle’s Garlic & Herb Seasoning inside, along with a simple recipe to create an easy, flavourful meal with mushrooms.

The partnership between mushroom grower Costa Group and Mingle is part of Costa’s efforts to encourage more Australians to cook with mushrooms and support the local industry.

Mingle founder, Jordyn Evans, said the company was thrilled to be partnering with Australia’s biggest supplier of mushrooms.

“Our Garlic & Herb Seasoning is made from all-natural ingredients and is the perfect way to elevate those rich, earthy flavours and bring a tasty twist to any mushroom dish,” said Evans.
