With Easter approaching, Coles and Bega have taken the traditional hot cross bun to a whole new level with a Vegemite version.

The limited-edition sweet and savoury crossover is available at more than 700 Coles stores nationwide.

Coles general manager of bakery, deli and seafood Andy Mossop said they expect the combination to perform well given the company’s prior similar twists.

“We know how much our customers love hot cross buns at Easter, and we know how much they love Vegemite, so we decided to merge these two icons to create a delicious, savoury spin on hot cross buns that champions Aussie flavours.

“Our teams have put a lot of time and work into fine-tuning the recipe to ensure we have the perfect flavour profile, so the signature Vegemite savouriness shines through in a way we know our customers are going to love,” Mossop said.

Infused with Vegemite and parmesan, the soft buns have a cheese top finish and are ideally served toasted with butter or grilled as a toasted sandwich with melted cheese filling.

Coles Vegemite Hot Cross Buns are available in a four pack for RRP $3.50.

Packaging News

ACOR is calling on the Government to urgently introduce packaging reforms or risk the collapse of Australia’s plastic recycling sector and face millions of tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
