Campbells Wines of Rutherglen has released its limited-edition Hand Picked Shiraz 2024, a medium bodied wine with vibrant deep red and purple hues.
The Shiraz grapes for the wine were handpicked in late February 2024, from the company’s Bobbie Burns II vineyard. Whole bunches were handpicked and put directly into open fermentation vessels in the vineyard, then covered with must (crushed grapes) from an earlier harvest. The vats were covered with dry ice to prevent oxidation and left cold soaking for three days.
The vessels were then hand plunged, twice daily for two weeks, and the temperature monitored. At the press stage, only the best free run juice was taken. Malolactic fermentation was initiated in the tank before the wine was finished in two-year-old French puncheons and matured for ten months.
The final stage blended the wine with some of the company’s Bobbie Burns I vineyard Shiraz, which features Shiraz vines that are over 60 years old.
Campbells Wines head winemaker, Jules Campbell, said Hand Picked Shiraz 2024 combined the efforts of the whole Campbells team.
“The lively red berry and plum fruit dances across your palate and the spicy oak background creates a smooth clean finish,” said Campbell.
