Fremantle based brewery, Little Creatures, teamed up with Western Australian bottle co-op, Liquor Barons, earlier this year to allow a lucky local to design their own beer and can concept. The winning creation, Little Towns Crispy Lager, has been launched across all Liquor Barons stores.

Ravensthorpe local, Stevie Smart, was the winner of the ‘Create Your Kegacy’ competition, crafting a limited edition beer inspired by the charm and camaraderie of small Western Australian towns, with welcoming country pubs.

Following the guidance from master brewers at Little Creatures’ Fremantle Brewery, Smart owned the whole creative process – from selecting the flavours and naming the lager, to designing the can and packaging.

“My Little Towns Crispy Lager is an ode to the small, welcoming country towns in Western Australia where people travel far and wide to catch up at the local pub,” said Smart.

“With a crisp, refreshing taste it's the perfect companion for hot summer days, a cold beer in hand and yarn with your mates is all you need, no matter the occasion.”

As the competition winner, Smart will also receive a year’s supply of Little Creatures and tickets to the Fremantle Beer Fest 2024.

Little Creatures head brewer, Russell Gosling, said collaborating with passionate beer lovers like Stevie is what makes the craft so special.

“Little Towns Crispy Lager is a fantastic brew that reflects the spirit of WA’s close-knit communities, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life, and confident it’s going to be a crowd pleaser,” said Gosling.

Little Towns Crispy Lager has a 4.8% ABV and will be available for purchase from late September at Liquor Barons stores across Western Australia. On-tap availability will depend on the venue.

Australia has stepped firmly onto the global stage in support of an ambitious treaty to end plastic pollution, with Environment Minister Murray Watt announcing the nation’s commitment during the United Nations Ocean Conference in France. Meanwhile, local environmental leaders are urging the government to back its global words with accelerated domestic action.

Plastic resin made from recycled milk and juice bottles at a Pact-operated recycling facility in Melbourne meets US FDA safety requirements for use in HDPE food and drink packaging.

Packaging and IT recycling operation Close the Loop anticipates its second half EBITDA will fall by 50 per cent compared to the first half, on revenue that at around $99m will be similar to the first six months.
