Bega has announced the arrival of Bega Cream Cheese, putting an Australian owned and made brand of cream cheese onto shelves made with milk and cream from local farms.

Made with fresh milk and cream sourced from local Australian farms, Bega is producing the cream cheese at its Port Melbourne and Strathmerton sites, using the spreadable product-making expertise from the same team that produces Vegemite.

Bega already makes cream cheese products for export so no production changes were nessessary to begin manufacturing a local version at the sites.

Bega Cream Cheese marketing manager, Niamh Farrell said when it came to locally owned and made produce, Australia was spoilt for choice.

“We have some of the best dairy products in the world, farmed and produced to the highest standards right here in our own backyard.

“Bega Cream Cheese has been launched for Australians who love cream cheese, and also love supporting locally owned and made brands.”

Farrell told Food & Drink Business it took the team just over a year to deliver the final product to shelves across Australia.

“The Bega Cream Cheese team is proud of the research and development work that went into developing Bega Cream Cheese – and is confident that the end result is a great tasting cream cheese product that highlights its Australian ingredients,” said Farrell.

Bega is also taking the opportunity to showcase its Better Farms Program on the new product.

The Program, created to help make dairy farmers’ big ideas possible, has its logo featured on the packaging. Every year, the program spends up to $1.1 million dollars’ in financial grants to eligible dairy farmers in its network.

The Bega Cream Cheese block and tub packaging is also recyclable, with both carrying the ARL (Australasian Recycling Labels).

Bega Cream Cheese can be found in Woolworths and independent stores in both block and spreadable formats, with the product landing in Coles from 6 March for RRP $5.00.

Packaging News

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
