Australian Distilling Co (ADCo) has released its 16th spirit, a Navy Gin. ADCo CEO Michael Hickinbotham said it was a nod to the “colourful history of the overproof gins of a bygone era”.

“The British Royal Navy would allocate rations of spirits to their sailors, who would test its strength by dousing it with gunpowder to see if it would light,” he said.

It has true Navy strength at 57 per cent, with a bold flavour and dominant notes of woody spice and an earthy oak influence.

“To contrast its heat, pair it back with a cooling cucumber garnish and Mediterranean tonic. Or try a chip of oak wood on the rim of the glass for a cask aroma touch,” Hickinbotham said. “It also makes a wicked martini.”

The ADCo Navy Gin joins the family’s national range, which also features its Gin, Shiraz Gin, Rhapsody Ruby Gin and Vodka.

It is sold online at ADCo and local retailers across the country for RRP $94.99.
