Italian company, Simonini, is looking back on a long tradition in meat processing, combining craft methods with modern production processes. CSB-System is working to support the company's innovation to improve quality, safety, and efficiency.

“Traditional meat processing has remained unchanged,” emphasises CEO Grazia Bertè. Even so, Simonini counts on innovation to improve quality, safety, and efficiency – supported by the CSB-System.

Digitalisation to improve transparency and efficiency

In 2008, the company with 30 employees generating a turnover of around nine million euros, launched an all-encompassing modernisation project: new machines, optimised processes, and the use of an ERP software system integrating all areas.

“We were seeking a solution to ensure food safety, supply chain transparency, customer service, and cost control. CSB-System convinced us with its industry expertise,” says Bertè.

Now, the company uses the CSB-System to manage the purchasing of premium raw materials, the production based on bills of materials and recipes, inventory movements, quality controls, billing, order processing, and financial accounting. Thanks to the consistent use of data, double entries are eliminated, error rates are reduced, and the managers can access the latest metrics of raw materials, production, and sales at any given time.

Highest quality standards through seamless traceability

At Simonini, food safety is paramount. Every product is assigned a lot number in goods receiving to guarantee seamless traceability. The ERP captures and analyses all Critical Control Points (CCPs). Given its compliance with European standards, the company was able to obtain essential certification such as IFS and DTP108 GLUTEN FREE from CSQA.

“Thanks to CSB-System, we have automated the document exchange with our partners using EDI. This has substantially simplified our processes,” said Daniele Simonini, CEO of the fourth generation

Flexibility and customer focus through automated processes

Simonini supplies its wide range of products to both wholesalers and retailers.

“We distribute nearly 100 products – fresh, cooked, cured specialties – under our own brand and as private labels. Thanks to CSB-System, we have automated the document exchange with our partners using EDI. This has substantially simplified our processes,” explains Daniele Simonini, CEO of the fourth generation.

Four weigh price labelling lines, controlled by the CSB-System, ensure maximum transparency and legally compliant labelling. The ERP software additionally manages master data, customized print layouts, and promotion campaigns.

“We maximize the performance by minimising the item changeovers and set-up times. Yet, we always stay flexible and efficient and guarantee the daily deliveries of our products.”

Additional support is provided by Route Planning, an integrated solution to realize the full optimization potential regarding routes, distribution, weight and volume of the load, and the assignment of human resources and vehicles. The outcome has been a reduction in delivery costs and an increase of delivery precision.

Forward-looking, responsible, and innovative

Consumer demands for the purchase of food keep growing. They pay attention to health aspects, ethical topics, local produce, and authenticity of products. Quality has become more important than quantity. Simonini responds to this development with responsibility, transparency, and innovation.

“And we only choose partners who share these values,” said Bertè.
