Treotham Automation has introduced a high-performance plastic material for continuous steam exposure.

Iglide HSD350 material from Igus offers an affordable alternative to metallic options for use in steam sterilisation and autoclaving.

In applications that require autoclaving to kill bacteria, the high heat and steam pressure can create a number of problems.

For metallic bearings, the steam and high heat used in the autoclaving process requires special lubrication. Sterilisation can then be limited due to the use of these lubricants.

Igus has developed a new self-lubricating bearing material that is resistant to steam, moisture and pressure.

The new iglide material is suitable for continuous use in hygienic conditions, even with regular sterilisation. It can endure continuous temperatures of 180°C, as well as temporary exposure to temperatures up to 210°C.

Due to the low moisture absorption and thermal expansion, the iglide HSD350 material is ideal for use in autoclaves and steam chambers, food products, pharmaceuticals and the cleaning of medical tools.

Igus provides bearings and joints which allow for high levels of sterilisation, even in complex, non-separable units.
