Beckhoff Automation has launched the latest iteration of its proven TwinCAT open automation system to the Australian market – the TwinCAT PLC++.

Since TwinCAT’s commercial launch in 1996, Beckhoff has been making performance advancements, enriched by feedback from over 20,000 users worldwide.

Beckhoff Australia application manager, Ben Harrison, said this release isn’t just about faster engineering – it’s about empowering developers with tools for continuous integration, reduced cycle times, enhanced productivity, and streamlined file structures for source control, optimising development workflows.

“While TwinCAT has always been source-control friendly, PLC++ takes it to an entirely new level,” said Harrison.

“The PLC++ source files are simple and clean, making it easier to view changes and handle merges effortlessly.”

The TwinCAT PLC++ continues to support IEC 61131-3 programming languages and retains the familiar features of its predecessor. Beckhoff has also used IT-based models to redesign core components such as editors and compilers.

The new model executes control codes nearly twice as fast as its predecessor, enabled by a new compiler that allows the PLC to further optimise control code in terms of execution time. It also has an intuitive user interface with improved functions for improved usability.

The TwinCAT PLC++ prioritises safety, with extended type checks and secure online updates that automatically adjust pointers and references, reducing potential errors. Additionally, ‘emergency mode’ allows for predefined responses in exceptional machine states for reliable and safe shutdowns.

Beckhoff Automation’s TwinCAT range and other products are available Australia-wide at beckhoff.com/en-au, and the company has support offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth for consumer convenience.

The company stated product ranges that can be used as separate components or integrated into a complete and mutually compatible control system are available for all sectors.
