Robotic technology company ABB has brought a new dual-arm collaborative robot to market.
Following on from its dual-arm industrial robot named YuMi, the new release has a much smaller footprint, according to the company.
Collaborative robots are designed to work alongside humans on the factory floor to raise productivity and support the transition to mass customisation.
The latest release will be officially launched in 2018.
Like YuMi, the small-parts assembly robot introduced in 2015, the new robot has a payload of 500 grams and can be easily integrated into existing assembly lines, increasing productivity.
It also features lead-through programming, removing the need for specialised training for operators.
YuMi was originally designed for small-parts assembly, but it can reportedly also solve a Rubik’s Cube, make sushi, wrap gifts, and conduct an orchestra.
The newest robot adds to "the factory of the future" and can be combined with ABB Ability digital solutions.
