The Tempo Group of Companies has acquired Spring Gully Foods IP and Brands, including Spring Gully, Gardener, Leabrook Farms and Ozemite, after it entered voluntary administration in October.
Founded in 1946, Spring Gully Foods has been operating for almost 80 years, known for its range of locally made pickles, sauces, relishes, and condiments.
The company previously went into voluntary administration in 2013, with debts of more than $4.9 million, but was saved following an outpouring of public support to keep the business afloat. It cleared its debts from that period in 2017.
Under Tempo’s ownership, the company stated the Spring Gully brands will continue to deliver the products Australians know and love, with a renewed focus on innovation and long-term growth.
Tempo is a global supplier of consumer goods, with offices in eight countries. This isn’t the first step Tempo has taken into FMCG, having a range of brands under its wing spanning baby food, plant-based snacks, seafood, and Mediterranean specialty foods. The company acquired the specialty seafood brands, Paramount Salmon and Brunswick Sardines, from Noumi (then Freedom Foods Group) in November 2021 for around $3 million. Tempo also acquired Nourish Foods in October 2023, adding brands Just Add, Whole Kids, and Offbeat to its portfolio.
Tempo executive director, Nicholas Stergiotis, said the Spring Gully acquisition reflects the company’s commitment to supporting local manufacturing and preserving heritage Australian food brands.
“Spring Gully Foods holds a special place in the hearts of Australian consumers. We’re proud to ensure this iconic brand continues its journey under the Tempo Group, backed by our strong FMCG network and commitment to quality,” said Stergiotis.
“This acquisition also strengthens our presence in the shelf-stable and pantry goods sector, aligning with our broader strategy to grow our multi-brand and private label business.”
The company stated it continues to focus on creating innovative, sustainable, and family-friendly food and household brands for Australian and international markets as it undertakes the next stage of expansion.
