After a strong performance on the international awards circuit this year, Tasmanian distillery, Callington Mill, has secured four European distribution partnerships – expanding its profile into Belgium, France, Germany, and Poland.

At a time of heightened global interest in Tasmanian whisky, Callington Mill has partnered with Kirsch Import in Germany, L’Explorateur du Goût in France, Tudor House in Poland, and The World of Spirits in Belgium, positioning the distillery’s entire range of Tasmanian single malt whiskies alongside globally recognised brands.

L’Explorateur du Goût marketing director, Adèle Vittupier, said the company was selective with its whisky portfolio, as its customers care strongly about quality and the brand story.

“French consumers are increasingly open to discovering new whisky styles and exploring expressions from new regions,” said Vittupier.

“We think that Callington Mill represents the Tasmanian terroir succinctly and that our customer base will be excited to try a whisky from what is nearly the opposite side of the world.”

The distillery has a growing reputation in international markets after a strong awards season, taking out Single Malt Whisky of the Year at the London Spirits Competition, and receiving two of only five Gold medals awarded for Australian single malt whiskies at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.

In a concurrent effort for global visibility, Callington Mill will formally launch its range at Whisky Live in Paris and Whisky Live Germany this September and October.

Callington Mill commercial & marketing director, Scott English, said the company is optimistic for the future of these international partnerships, as it moves into premier export markets.

“Markets like France and Germany are known to be well-established and highly engaged in the whisky category, and getting a foothold in these countries provides us a strong foundation to represent the best of Tasmanian whisky,” said English.

“We’ve ensured our core range, and soon, our full portfolio is ready for large-scale distribution. It’s a considered move, aligning our inventory and production timelines with growing interest from European markets in Tasmanian whisky. We’re setting ourselves up for bigger goals.”

To meet growing international demand, Callington Mill is expanding its Tasmanian footprint with its own cooperage, additional bond stores, and bottling plant. In consumer facing moves, the distillery has opened a new cellar door in central Hobart, building on the success of its flagship Oatlands Cellar Door.

The brand continues to innovate, with its most recent release being an Australian first – a limited edition run of Amphora Single Malt Whisky, rested for two years in 350-litre amphorae, a 4000-year-old technique that is traditionally associated with wine.
