Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) scheme co-ordinator VicReturn has appointed Jim Round as its first CEO.

Round has held leadership positions in the Victorian government including deputy secretary of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions and chief of Planning and Governance on the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

Prior to this he was an economic adviser to Prime Minister Julia Gillard and a director in Victorian Premier Dan Andrews’ Office.

Round said, “This scheme will cut container waste and create jobs and opportunities for Victorians. It’s a pleasure to be appointed CEO and I am looking forward to getting cracking.”

The state government announced CDS Vic’s scheme co-ordinator and network operators last month, with the project set to begin on 1 November.

VicReturn is a not-for-profit entity run by a coalition of Lion, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Asahi Beverages.

It is responsible for managing the marketing of CDS Vic, running its financial operations and ensuring its smooth operation.

VicReturn chair Paul Klymenko said Round was the stand-out in a field of high-quality candidates.

“We are delighted he has chosen to join VicReturn and look forward to benefitting from his extensive public sector and government experience.

“His proven leadership abilities and track record of delivering results in demanding roles means he is the right person to ensure CDS Vic achieves success in creating a circular economy for containers, reducing litter and creating opportunities for Victorian households and community groups to participate,” Klymenko said.
