Food Innovation Australia (FIAL) has showcased fifty of the top Australian food and agribusiness innovations in a book launched this week.

The Mintel Global New Products Database was used to identify all product, process or marketing innovations.

The fifty innovations that scored highest did so against criteria to assess the impact of the innovation as judged by a panel of experts from industry, academia and research.

The list was drawn from food and drink innovations launched during the 2014 calendar year to allow time for the innovation to have an impact on the business.

Among the innovations showcased is Chep's new real-time customer mobile interface, a digital partnership between Coles and Taste.com.au, and 'launchpad' – an innovation platform from packaging company Detmold.

New product, Almond and Coconut milk yoghurt from small family company Babushka, Blue Diamond's dairy alternative, Almond Breeze Barista Blend, and CSIRO's high fibre, low GI grain BARLEYmax, were also named.

FIAL managing director, Dr Mirjana Prica, said the book is a great way to celebrate innovation across the industry and helps raise the profile of innovation in Australia.

The book “highlights how many innovations are addressing diet-related health issues and meeting consumer demand for sustainable and healthier foods with 'cleaner' labels", she said.

The book can be ordered here.
